The School of Life Science and Technology was founded in 1985 and is located in Guangxi, China. It began with a central laboratory in Guangxi Agriculture College, and in September 2003, several institutions were merged to form the School of Life Science and Technology.

The school has 69 faculty members, including 45 full-time teachers, with 22 professors and 20 associate professors. Among them there are 41 doctors, 22 doctoral supervisors and 45 supervisors for master’s degree. The school has a group of high-level talents, including those who have been awarded national talent titles, those who have been selected for national, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Science and Technology talent projects, recipients of special government allowances of the State Council, those who have been supported by the "Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University" and selected for the Ministry of Education's Young Talent Project, model teachers across the country, outstanding teachers awarded the Bao Gang Education Award, Guangxi Bagui Scholars, personnel selected for Guangxi's "Ten Thousand Talents Program," Guangxi Outstanding Youth, and outstanding experts in Guangxi Zhuang Autounomous Region(GZAR).

The school currently offers two undergraduate majors in Biotechnology and Bioscience, with a total enrollment of 539 undergraduate students. The Biotechnology major is a nationally top-ranked program. Since its establishment, the school has had one national bilingual teaching demonstration course, two autonomous regional excellent courses and one teaching team at autonomous-region level. We has undertaken one national virtual simulation teaching project as well as one project of reform and practice of education and teaching of the Ministry of Education, winning a second prize for National Teaching Reform Research Achievements, two special awards, two first prizes, five second prizes, and two third prizes for teaching reform and research achievements in GZAR. In the "China University and Discipline Major Evaluation Report"(Zhong Guo Da Xue Ji Xue Ke Zhuan Ye Ping Jia Bao Gao) published by the Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation(RCCSE), the China’s Education Quality Evaluation Center of Wuhan University, and the Network of Science & Education Evaluation in China, our Biotechnology major was ranked 7th and 10th respectively in the national ranking for undergraduate programs in 2015 and 2016.

In School of Life Science and Technology, there is Microbiology, there are many disciplines being selected as key and first-level disciplines: Biology, a top-notch and advantageous discipline in Guangxi, and Microbiology, a key discipline both of China and higher education of Guangxi. The school also has programs for a first-class doctoral and master's degree in Biology, a postdoctoral mobile station in Biology, and a master's professional degree program in Biology and Medicine. At present, there are 522 graduate students of various majors (including 89 doctoral students). The first-level disciplines of Agricultural Science, Plant and Animal Science, and Biology and Biochemistry are listed in the top 1% of the global ESI.

The school relies on national and provincial-level teaching and research platforms, such as the State Key Laboratory of Conservation and Utilization of Subtropical Agro-bioresources, the Cellulose Processing Laboratory of the National Engineering Research Center for Non-Food Biomass Energy, the Guangxi Key Laboratory of Subtropical Bioresources Conservation and Utilization, the Guangxi Subtropical Bioengineering Talent Highland, the GZAR Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center - Life Science Experimental Teaching Center, the GZAR Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching for Biological Science and Engineering, the Guangxi Microbiology and Enzyme Engineering Technology Research Center, and the Institute of Applied Biotechnology under the Scientific Research Center of Guangxi Institute of Occupational Technology.

Since the establishment of the School of Life Science and Technology, it has undertaken more than 100 scientific research projects at the national level as well as provincial and ministerial levels. The school has obtained 100 national authorized invention patents; published multiple research papers in internationally renowned academic journals such as Nature Communication, PNAS, Plant Cell, Genome Research, Nucleic Acids Research, Plant Journal, and Plant Cell and Environment; won 1 second prize of National S&T Progress Award, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal in the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition(iGEM), 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, and 2 third prizes of Guangxi Natural Science Award, 2 second prizes of Guangxi Technical Invention Award, and 2 first prizes, 7 second prizes, and 4 third prizes of Guangxi Science and Technology Award.

The School of Life Science and Technology will follow a "three-step" development strategy plan. By 2028, it aims to become a first-class research-oriented School of Life Science and Technology with distinctive discipline orientation, prominent professional structure, clear faculty level, and reasonable layout of cooperative education. The school will combine biological theory with applied research, and focus on subtropical biological resources.
