School of Light Industry and Food Engineering of Guangxi University was founded in 1978. After more than 40 years of development, the school now has 85 teaching staff, including 63 full-time teachers, 18 with the title of professor, 29 with associate titles, and 59 teachers with doctoral degrees. At present, there are one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, two honorary professors (academicians) of Junwu, and two national candidates of “Hundred Million Talent Project” aiming at developing hundreds of millions of talents in China. There is one member of the Discipline Review Group of State Council, one member of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, two experts enjoying the special government allowances of the State Council, one Bagui Scholar, and one tenured professor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region(GZAR). We have formed a team of high-quality and innovative teachers with high morality, outstanding expertise and appropriate structure.

The school takes discipline construction as the core, highlighting discipline characteristics and focusing research directions, in order to comprehensively improve discipline standards. The school now has 1 first-level doctoral program, 2 first-level master's programs, 3 master's professional degree programs, 3 undergraduate programs, and 1 postdoctoral station. In 2013, our discipline of Light Industry Technology and Engineering was approved as a key discipline with advantages and characteristics of Guangxi and Guangxi University. And in 2017, it was elected as the first-class discipline of Guangxi. In 2013, the discipline of Food Science and Engineering was approved as a major discipline at university level. Light Chemical Engineering is a national first-class major, a national key program of higher education, and a high-quality special major of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region(GZAR). The major of Packaging Engineering Specialty is a national first-class professional major with advantages and characteristics of GZAR. The major of Food Science and Engineering is the first-class major of China and GZAR, as well as a major with advantages and characteristics of GZAR in urgent need.

The School of Light Industry and Food Engineering adheres to the goal of enhancing scientific and technologicaland collaborative innovation, building a high-level scientific research platform, and striving to build a scientific research pattern that combines study, research and production. The school has a total of 1.2 hectares of teaching laboratory space, with a total equipment value of more than 130 million yuan and more than 3,000 sets of instruments and equipment such as nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, transmission electron microscope, gas chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography.

It continues to refine its characteristics, give full play to its advantages, and comprehensively improve its ability to develop disciplines, research and teaching, cultivate talents and serve the society, making continuous efforts to create a better future.
