To align with regional development, China-ASEAN strategic cooperation, the Double First-class construction initiative, and enhance the international management of the university, Guangxi University (GXU) merged the China-ASEAN Research Institute, ASEAN School, Sino-Canadian International College, International Education College, and Institute of Complexity Science & Big Data Technology to establish the International College of Guangxi University in June 2018. Professor Qin Chengqiang serves as the Dean of the International College of Guangxi University, and Professor Guan Rongzhen serves as the Secretary of the CPC General Branch of the International College. Additionally, Professor Wang Yuzhu, researcher at the National Institute of International Strategy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (NIIS CASS), is the Executive Dean of the International College of Guangxi University.

The International College of Guangxi University has a staff of 109 members, including 98 Chinese staff and 11 foreign staff. It enrolls 544 students, consisting of 15 Ph.D. candidates, 35 graduate students, and 496 undergraduate students. In 2022, the College took responsibility for the administration of 2,758 international students at Guangxi University. In terms of education, the college has established the Department of Southeast Asian Languages, the Department of International Cooperative Teaching and Research, and the Department of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.

The Department of Southeast Asian Languages offers majors in Laos, Cambodian, and Burmese. It provides eight types of courses, including Politics, Economy, Management, Ethnic Groups, Society, Law, Journalism, and Literature, to innovate the training system for cultivating compound talents in Country Research. Professional classrooms are available under the supervision of the Department of International Cooperative Teaching and Research, which collaborates with foreign universities in various aspects of teaching.

The Department of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language is responsible for teaching Chinese language courses to international students, ranging from bachelor’s to Ph.D. levels, and arranging relevant cultural courses for them.

As a gateway to expedite the internationalization process of Guangxi University, the International College aims to establish an international platform with ASEAN characteristics. In line with the “Double First-Class” university construction, the College strives to be listed among the world’s top universities and disciplines, utilizing the platform’s advantages to advance towards a first-class institution.
