The School of Animal Science and Technology of Guangxi University was founded in 1938, formerly the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of the School of Agriculture, Guangxi University. In 1952, Guangxi Agricultural College turned into an independent college and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine was abolished. Our teachers were appointed to other colleges like South China Agricultural College and Huazhong Agricultural College. Only the livestock artificial insemination station was kept. In 1958, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine was rebuilt and affiliated to Guangxi Agricultural College. In 1992, Guangxi Agricultural College was renamed Guangxi Agricultural University. In 1997, Guangxi Agricultural University merged with the former Guangxi University into the new Guangxi University, and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine turned into the School of Animal Science and Technology of Guangxi University.

Ⅰ.Faculties

The school now has a group of high-quality teachers. We have 107 faculty members, including 72 full-time teachers（25 professors and 26 associate professors), 30 doctoral supervisors and 77 master’s supervisor. Among them, 77 teachers hold a doctoral degree and 32 teachers have more than one year's overseas experience. At present, the school now has one national high-level personnel, one outstanding mid-aged expert, 2 experts subsidized by special government allowances of the State Council, one “Bagui Scholar”, 3 being listed in the “Hundred Talents Program” of Guangxi Universities, 3 Guangxi Excellent Experts, one Outstanding Scholar of Guangxi Universities, 1 Guangxi scientific and technological personnel with outstanding contributions, one member of the National Administry Committee on Teaching Disciplines to Majors in Higher Education under The Ministry of Education, one member of National Administry Committee on Teaching of the Ministry of Education, one reviewer of CDGDC, one expert of ASEAN aquatic products market of the Ministry of Agriculture, two experts on Argumentation on the Use of Sea Areas, as well as 2 chief experts, 3 functional specialists, and  2 post specialists of Guangxi innovation team of national modern agricultural system.

Ⅱ.Talent Training

The school has a complete talent training system, including the Department of Animal Science, the Department of Animal Medicine and one experimental education center, offering two undergraduate majors of Animal Science and Animal Medicine, both being selected as national first-class undergraduate programs. The school has first-level doctoral programs under two subjects (Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine), one doctoral degree program under one subject (Veterinary Medicine), first-level master's degree program under 3 subjects (Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries), master's professional degree programs under 2 subjects (Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture); as well as one post-doctoral mobile research center of Animal Husbandry. Besides, we have one national key discipline (Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction), one Guangxi first-class construction discipline (Animal Husbandry), and two distinctive advantageous disciplines of Guangxi (Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine). In the academic year 2022-2023, the school has a total enrollment of 1,985 students, including 948 undergraduates, 816 full-time master's students, 51 part-time master's students, 11 visiting postgraduate students, 147 doctoral students, 11 international students and 2 post-doctoral students.

Ⅲ.Scientific Research

The school offers well-developed R&D platforms, including two national research platforms (State Key Laboratory for Conservation and Utilization of Subtropical Agro-Bioresources, International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Conservation and Utilization of Subtropical Agro-Bioresources), two provincial and ministerial research platforms (Research Center of Veterinary Biologicals Engineering of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guangxi Key Laboratory for Breeding and Disease Prevention and Control of Livestock and Poultry), one key laboratory of Guangxi’s universities (Laboratory for Healthy Aquaculture and Nutrition Regulation of Aquatic Organisms) and two university-level research institutions (Institute of Animal Reproduction of Guangxi University, Institute of Wildlife Research of Guangxi University). In addition, the school has established animal science teaching and research base and an animal hospital. Also, we have built 24 off-campus teaching and research practice bases jointly with Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Guangxi Guiken Animal Husbandry Co. LTD through School-enterprise and school-local cooperation.

Since the founding of our school 80 years ago, we have cultivated over 20,000 personnel for Guangxi and the whole country following the principle of fostering virtue through education. On scientific research, we have won many national and provincial awards in buffalo breeding, animal disease prevention and control, etc. Through years of hard work, we have made great contributions to the development of animal husbandry, veterinary and fishery.
