Humanism is the foundation of human progress and the cornerstone of national rejuvenation. For universities, humanism symbolizes its spirits and history. The School of Literature of Guangxi University was originally built in 1936 as the Department of Literature of the School of Humanities and Law of Guangxi University. Famous scholars such as Chen Wangdao, Wang Shijing and Qin Shi served as the dean successively, and many famous professors and scholars such as Chen Yinke, Wang Li, Lu Qinli and Sha Shaohai once taught here. The training programs of the School of Literature now include: first-level master's degree programs in Chinese Language and Literature (including 8 second-level master's degree programs in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Chinese Language and Philology, Classical Chinese Philology, Ancient Chinese Literature, Literature and Art, Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Chinese Minority Languages and Literature, and Comparative Literature and World Literature), and master's professional degree program under one subject (Chinese Language Teaching). In 2013, Chinese Language and Literature was approved as the key discipline of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. In 2019, the School of Literature was listed as the the Research Center of Literature and Culture, a key research center on humanities and social sciences for Guangxi Universities. Two undergraduate programs in Chinese Language teaching and Chinese Language and Literature were recognized as provincial first-level undergraduate programs in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

The school now involves for research centers: Research Center of Literature and Culture of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Chinese Classics Research Institute, Center for Linguistics, and Institute of Culture Creativity. Besides, we have built many teaching and research bases: Language Research and Talents Training Base of Guangxi University (co-built with Center for Chinese Linguistics, Peking University), Guangxi Yongfu Chinese Fu and Longevity Culture Research Base, as well as 10 off-campus teaching field bases.

The school attaches great importance to its faculty development in a well-arranged way. It now has 41 full-time teachers, among which are 15 professors (36.6%), 15 associate professors (36.6%), 92.6% of them owning a doctoral degree. In the past five years, the school has published nearly 300 academic papers and 44 monographs in authoritative journals such as Social Sciences in China, Studies of the Chinese Language, Literary Review, Cultural Heritage and other important journals. It has won a number of research and teaching awards, such as the second prize of the 8th University Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award of Ministry of Education, and the core program History of Ancient Chinese Literature has been recognized as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate courses.
