GXU's Project awarded the First Prize of the 2023 China Award for Science and Technology in Construction

The China Award for Science and Technology in Construction Committee announced the list of winners for the 2023 China Award for Science and Technology in Construction on March 12th. Guangxi University, as the first completed unit, won the First Prize for its project "Quantitative Design of Concrete Durability for Offshore Engineering Structures and Its Engineering Applications". The project was led and completed by Professor Yang Lvfeng from School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, marking the first time our region has received the First Prize in this award.

The project has developed a set of key technologies for quantitative design of concrete durability in offshore engineering structures with independent intellectual property rights. It successfully solved the international challenges in quantitative design of concrete materials and structural durability. For the first time both at home and abroad, it realized the concrete structural design concept of emphasis on both strength and durability in terms of models, processes, and technologies. This effectively improved the durability of marine concrete structures, reduced engineering costs, and decreased carbon emissions, achieving significant economic and environmental benefits. The research results have been included in national engineering construction design standards, and have obtained 41 international and national patents, 7 computer software copyrights, and 84 published papers (including 40 papers indexed by SCI and EI). The project has also previously won the China Patent Award of Excellence(2020), the First Prize of China Engineering Construction Standard Scientific and Technological Innovation Award (2020), and the Gold Award of Guangxi Invention and Creation Exhibition and Trade Fair (2012). The research results have been promoted and applied to engineering projects in countries along the Belt and Road such as Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cameroon, and Tanzania, including building engineering, bridge engineering and seaports.

The China Award for Science and Technology in Construction was established in 2002 and approved by the National Office for Science & Technology Awards. It is a scientific and technological award in the construction industry established in the form of social awards. It is one of the highest awards in the field of national construction science and technology. It aims to reward organizations and citizens who have made significant contributions to the construction industry, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into productive forces, and enhance the overall technological level of the industry.
