History: Founded in 1932, the School of Forestry at Guangxi University is one of the oldest colleges of the university. Famous forestry educators and scientists such as Chen Huanyong and Ma Dapu were the main founders of the school. Over the past 90 years, the college has gone through numerous hardships, including 12 relocations to places such as Wuzhou, Guizhou, Guilin, and Mingyang, as well as 6 name changes. However, the people of the School of Forestry have always maintained a positive attitude, overcoming difficulties and working hard to blaze a new trail in teaching and research. As a result, the college has made great progress and has been included into the list of the 211 Project universities, first-class major construction universities, and universities co-constructed by the Ministry of Education and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Government.

Faculty: The School of Forestry has 70 full-time faculty members, including 2 national high-level personnel recipients, 1 recipient of the Special Allowance of the State Council, 2 members of the Education Ministrys Teaching Advisory Committee, 1 national forestry and grassland teaching master, and 1 Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Young Scholar. Over 90% of the faculty hold doctoral degrees, and 62% of the faculty members have associate professor or professor titles. All faculty members are eligible to supervise both doctoral and masters degree students.

Discipline and Degree Programs: The School of Forestry offers a doctoral program in Ecology, a postdoctoral mobile station in Ecology, disciplinary masters degree programs in Ecology and Forestry, and professional masters degree programs in Forestry and Landscape Architecture. In the fourth round of national discipline assessment, the doctoral program in Ecology received a B-level rating, and the Environmental Science/Ecology discipline was ranked among the top 1% globally according to ESI.

Education Reform and Talent Cultivation (Talent Development): The School of Forestry offers undergraduate programs in forestry and ecology, with more than 650 full-time undergraduate students, over 440 full-time graduate students, and over 60 part-time graduate students. The college has trained more than 30,000 senior specialized professionals for the country. Forestry has been rated as a first-class discipline for national undergraduate programs, a national excellent agriculture and forestry talent training program, a national key program, a distinctive advantageous program of Guangxi Universities, and a Guangxi demonstration specialty for innovation and entrepreneurship education reform. Ecology is a distinctive advantageous major of Guangxi Universities. In the past five years, the college has obtained 3 national-level and 8 autonomous region-level Teaching Quality project proposal, over 10 teaching reform achievements, and more than 10 gold prize, first prize, and silver awards in competitions such the China College Students Internet Plus Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the Challenge Cup Extra-curricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition. In 2020, the forestry major was selected as a national first-class major construction site. The project “Exploration and Practice of the New Agricultural Science Intelligent Teaching Model Based on Intelligent Simulation and Digitization” was included into the New Agricultural Science Research and Reform Practice Project of the Ministry of Education. The Guangxi Forestry Masters Joint Training Base was approved as a provincial and ministerial joint training base. In 2019, the teaching reform conducted by the school “Reform and Exploration of Improving Forestry-related Majors’ Innovative Practical Ability through Simulation, Digitization, and Intelligence Based on the Integration of Science and Education” won the special prize award of the Guangxi Teaching Achievement.
